Escape the Fear

Escape the Fear By Jesse Scobie

Its 10 to 9 in the darkness of New York City
And all the young girls are looking pretty
But you should know not to fumble
You should avoid the mighty tumble
Cause everybody knows the end is near
The windows are shut and the doors are locked
Cause Everybody’s running to escape the fear

There’s an old Irish man in a pub next door
He’s smoking Cuban cigars while the waitress mops the floor
The bartender says to me “Man you look shot”
I said “ I just got back from Nam smoking $10k worth of pot”
He says” How much do you want, I got 8 bottles of beer”
I said “I’ll take 6 for the road and 2 for the next time I here”
Cause I’m just running to escape the fear

Then a clown comes out from the middle of the street
He’s wearing gold rings on his fingers and some on his feet
His face is covered in blood, so I ask where he was
He told me about the war, then went into a buzz
Then a car drove by and hit a talking deer
I said, “Can I help sir?" but he was already gone
Cause everybody’s running to escape the fear

The girl with lemon-lime eyes sits down and realizes
The beauty of the moonlight and how it rises
But before she can comment a man comes up to her
He starts rambling bout taxes and animal fur
A monkey in a polka dot suit sheds a tear
While the army man drinks vodka from a chandelier
Cause everybody’s running to escape the fear

A blind man walks on a tightrope made of grass
While the fat lady sings you can kiss my ass
Bob Dylan rides his horse to the mountain
While Paris Hilton slips on the carpet into the fountain
And everyone is asking what am I doing here
And everyone is wondering where’s my gear
Cause everybody’s looking to escape the fear

The broken jewels of despair in Niagara Falls
Are slipping in to the aristocrats at the ball
Where the homeless insurance men rake in the night
And supermodels make lust a global right
The sinful sinister HMO grins a sneer
While his patients die of poverty and smear
For the hypocrites are trying to escape the fear

The president awaits the call of the almighty
A false god who kills the beauty of Aphrodite
While the arrows of sorrow kill the poor
And the gallons of hate pour through the door
But the blankets of love and hope are near
To cover every long lost woman and child
In order for them to escape the fear

The kisses of death wait on the broken highway
With mad scientists make potions that decay
The sentimental lillies flow through the clouds
where buddhist monks make life long vows
to help the world return love thats now mere
to save the sky from pouring down for years
So everyone on earth can escape the fear

The suns and moons are breathing ecstasy
While the prisoners of time wonder what maybe
Socrates and Plato are seeking the truth
While the egos of generals give their salutes
The flaming buildings are dripping in rain
The world is crying buckets of pain
The clocking is ticking the future’s unclear
And everyone is gone except the fear
