At Peace With One's Self (short story)

At Peace With One's Self By Jesse Scobie

" I may not have come here to tell what I think
I may not have come here to show what I know
And I may not even have come here to express how I feel
But I did come here out of the shadows to give you my heart"

A salesman walks by an empty street where an old poor man sits and asks him "I see you are very poor and probably cannot afford to buy any gold or silver from me. But I will give it too you for free of charge on this one time offer" The old man glances up at the young salesman and says "No thank you I already have the grandest gold and most lucious silver in the world" The young salesman perplexed steps aside and keeps on walking down the street looking back at the old man every few seconds knowing he could not pocess any gold or silver. Then a beautiful young woman wearing a very provocative dancer's outfit sees the old man and says "I see you are very poor and probably cannot afford my services but I will offer you my body and all of it's treasures for this one time only." The old man again takes a mintue and glances up at the young woman "I'm sorry but I already have the most beautiful woman in the world with me at all times, yearning for my every need." The young woman walks down the street again looking perplexed like the young man and looks back at the old man every few seconds knowing there is no woman near him in sight.

Lastly a young boy walks up to the old man, shy at first he walks right in front of him facing forward and says "Old man I know there is something that you have wanted all your life and yet you have never recieved this precious jewel and neither have I ever had the opportunity of having this great gift. The gift of having a grandfather and the gift of having a grandson." The old man slowly lifts his head from his meditation and cracks a open smile laughing. The boy starts to cry feeling insulting but the old man stops him saying "Dear young boy don't take my hesitation and laughing as an insult I am merely remembering when I was your age and the feelings of such passion, joy and possibilities in a world where I could do anything!" The old man now grabs the boy by the shoulder whispers in his ear softly "But then when I thought about all the things I wanted whether it was a new bike, a new pet or even later a wife and family, I realized I had everything in this moment, in this world, in this life now in the present. Boy I would love nothing more than to be grandfather just as you would love nothing more than having a grandfather but my grandhildren, my father, my mother and my sisters and brothers are this earth, in this time right now. The beauty..." The old man stares right into the boys eyes "Is right here in the present, it is the only true love that exists. Knowing this my child is true happiness. Knowing this you have everything and you need nothing." The boy stops crying and starts laughing with the old man as the dark magenta sun sets in the moonlight of the sky.

In The Horizon (poem)

In The Horizon By Jesse Scobie

Spring time in the windy city
Horses drawn upon the gaze
Soilders march on hills of green
The robin sings the song of day

Through shattered glass you can see
The prince lead his mighty army
To squander the homes of rich and poor
The sun will cry on the land of the free

A child lost in the darkened street
Whispers softly like a turtle dove
"Where is my county? Where is my family?"
They are both lost in seas of shame above

Burning candle flickers in the wind
Shadows grow deep in light's path
Fear will rest when work begins
But not untill there's one last laugh

Unrequited love struck through my past
Ghosts will tell of what's to come
Memories entangled with reality
Emotions drown in what's become

The war will set with the sun in the west
The movements of peace and tranquility
Fall like snow whispering through happiness
The child stands up from the ashes to be free
