Ballad of a First Born Son (William's Tale)

BALLAD OF A FIRST BORN SON (William’s Tale)
By Jesse Scobie

He came into this world the 9th of November
Born to parents of resilience in west Wisconsin
The first born son, meant for stories to remember
To carry weights of gold and love to the brim

William Scobie was curious of learning in his youth
Found his way to a business degree in U. Eau Claire
With smarts and loyalty, he helped carry on Mason Shoe
As our families gathered at meetings and the fair

His grandparents, uncles and father knew he was the one
To carry the Mason’s dream, as the first born son

Time was kind to William, he married his sweetheart
Nancy, the poet, director, mother, and wife
Two sons were born in the 60’s of change and art
Who became great lawyers, and Mason employees in life

Sometimes the economy wasn’t kind to shoemakers
People needed to eat, and not worry about their feet
But the 90’s brought the internet and website makers
And Mason Shoe sailed to the world from the street

Bill, was a fun big brother to his four younger sibs
Always made them laugh with his stories & his fibs,
He went through trials of hardships, but always saw the sun
Carrying the Mason’s torch of dreams, as the first born son

It was a darker day, they told him when the tremor came
A new chapter in the life, of a leader and family man
There was no cure, had to stop skiing with the pain
But, William persevered with a lion’s mighty stand

A lover of history from the Civil War to Scottish Kings
He had the blessed memory and vigor to maintain
The best grandpa he became, to the kids h would bring
Smiles to their faces & happy memories that would remain

Scobies sailed the ocean, making their mark and song sung
Carrying the torch of family dreams, with each first born son

REST IN PEACE, LOVE, YOUR FAMILY…
